Adolescent Residential Treatment

Saluda Cove Program

At Three Rivers Residential Treatment, we help our 11-to-17 year-old adolescent patients suffering from emotional and/or behavioral issues to create new beginnings each and every day. With compassionate care, support and specialized programs, we offer a place of healing and hope.

Each patient receives an individualized assessment and treatment plan administered by a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, social workers, activity therapists, nurses and technicians.

Saluda Cove Program

Saluda Cove offers a secure residential treatment facility for adolescent females and males experiencing crises related to:

These patients have typically suffered abuse, neglect and/or abandonment, and have various psychiatric diagnoses.

Saluda Cove uses a full-immersion Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) model. Successfully navigating the waterways at Saluda Cove requires commitment to living mindfully, to understanding and regulating emotions, to tolerating distress skillfully and to becoming more interpersonally effective. Our average length of stay is 6 to 12 months.

The Four Levels of the Saluda Cove Program:

Falls: Residents participate in groups focusing on education about DBT, borderline personality disorder, program rules, and making a commitment to DBT. An individual therapist and a psychiatrist perform the initial assessments.

Rapids: Individual therapy focuses on decreasing suicidal behaviors, aggression and self-injury. Skills and homework groups emphasize the benefits of learning DBT skills to reduce self-harm. Residents monitor patients’ emotions and behaviors on daily diary cards.

Rivers: Skills and homework groups teach residents about mindfulness, regulating emotions, tolerating distress and improving interpersonal interactions. Individuals and staff coach residents in using their newly acquired skills in a multitude of life situations. Therapists address behaviors by residents that may slow their progression in individual sessions, groups and team meetings.

Oceans: Residents continue to enhance skills application while preparing for transition to community settings. Residents enjoy increased community passes and fewer unit restrictions while maintaining their efforts in individual and group therapies. The behaviors and emotions monitored on daily diary cards now reflect improving their quality of life, attaining educational goals, and deepening healthy relationships.

Education

The residential program at Saluda Cove includes an instructional program designed for each student. Our goal is to maintain the student's current grade placement and prepare them for the next level.

The residents at Saluda Cove are enrolled in the Lexington County School District Two educational program. Computers in the classroom on Saluda Cove are used to network us with the District.

We provide four hours of education coordinated with the treatment program by a certified teacher in a dedicated classroom.
